The Beetles are here!

Finally, after weeks of waiting, we get to observe our mealworms in the adult stage of their life cycle.  These young scientists observed the dramatic changes as the mealworms emerged from the pupa stage as beetles.  Using magnifying lenses they scrutinized the adults as they sketched them in their lab books paying special attention to the head, thorax, abdomen, legs, and antennae. The scientists hypothesized possible reasons for the range in color in the adults from light beige to black.  Next, we'll be building new habitats for our new insects, the milkweed bugs.  Be sure to ask your young scientist about all they've observed in science.
