Week in Review
READING: We began The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. We used a graphic organizer to help us compare and contrast the various characters within the story as means to more deeply comprehend the text.
WRITING: We continued working on various techniques to help us expand on our ideas. We added descriptive adjectives and adverbs, specific nouns, and additional tell-me-more-about-that sentences. We discussed present and past tense verbs and the importance in maintaining a consistent verb tense in our writing.
SPELLING/CURSIVE : We studies contractions paying special attention to where the apostrophe goes. We learned lowercase j and p.
MATH: We worked on solving multi-step problems.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We continued discussing the various geographical regions of the globe, narrowing our focus on the United States. We learned about a variety of famous landmarks in each of the various regions. We challenged ourselves to memorize the location of each of the fifty states. Students will tested on the following 14 states on Monday: Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, Hawaii, Texas, Maine, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Missippi, Louisiana, South Carolina, and North Carolina. They brought home blank maps in their folders. How many do you know?
SCHOLASTIC: I received an email regarding the latest shipment of Scholastic books that were sent out today. We eagerly await their arrival to our classroom. The December catalog went home yesterday. Be sure to check it out. Remember, the scholastic books you order translate into more books for our classroom.:-)
REPORT CARDS: Report cards went home with your child today. Be sure to folders :-)
