The Week in Review
Here it is:
READING: We finished up with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We explored how identifying a story's structure i.e characters, setting, and plot contributes to greater understanding of the narrative as a whole. We practiced using graphic organizers to help them us map out the structures of both stories we read independently as well as as our read aloud by CS Lewis.
WRITING: We are continuing our work with character analysis. We focused specifically on expanding our ideas using specific, relevant information from the text.
MATH: We practiced interpreting data taken from tables. We learned how to find missing data by using information from surrounding cells.
SOCIAL STUDIES: We our discovering where our community of Bellevue is in relation to the rest of the world. We discovered how our planet is divided into hemispheres. We learned the names of the seven continents and the four oceans. We found our country on the North American continent and are discovering which other countries share this continent with us.
CHESS: We learned all about the Knight, specifically how it moves and captures.
CURSIVE/SPELLING: We learned about words that sound the same, but have different spellings and definitions. We practiced lowercase r and s.
BOOK PROJECT: We brought home directions for this month's book project. Links to pdfs and a sample can be found in the sidebar under homework. Students should begin picking out fantasy books such as those in the Narnia series. The book project is due the Friday after we return from winter break and should reflect a month's worth of effort.
