Welcome Back

This is our class blog where you will find answers to all life's questions you've ever wanted to ask, but didn't. Not really. Hopefully, you will find answers to some of the questions you might have about what happens in our classroom. You'll find updates and see what all the scholars are learning in this classroom.  We will try to let you know about upcoming learning objectives and provide hints to help you support your child's learning. I will update this blog on the first and third Monday of each month so swing by and check it out. #weeklyupdate

These first few days have been filled with learning the new routines and procedures that come with joining a new classroom. We have been building our community and adjusting to school life after a long and glorious summer. In the weeks ahead we will be learning the following.

READING
  • target skill -story structure
  • target strategy-analyze illustrations
  • recording observations and questions
How you can help at home: Encourage your third grader to read a minimum of 20 minutes most nights. Ask questions about what they've read. Follow up with, "What happened in your book to make you think that?"

WRITING
  • simple sentences
  • subject of a sentence
  • using guess and go spelling during  the drafting process
How you can help at home: Leave notes in your child's lunchbox or backpack. Use short simple sentence. Put a box around the complete subject of the sentence. Make sure to include a question that invites a written response from your child. Remind them to put a box around the subject of their sentence.

MATH
  • Telling time to the hour and the half hour
How you can help at home: Ask your child to tell the time on an analog clock. Encourage your child to guess appropriate times for family activities. For example, "What time is now? What time would be a good time to eat dinner? How many minutes/hours until dinner?"
MEET #5
Elijah has a tarantula that lives in his backyard. He also has four fish. They do not live in the backyard. He has a younger sister and an older brother.
"This year, I want to learn my times tables."
