Weeks Ending December 3

Is it just me, or did November speed by? We have been working hard and learning so much. Here's what we've been up to.

LITERACY-

  • identified and highlighted details from a text to support our ideas in response to a prompt
  • distinguished  when to quote and when to paraphrase text evidence
  • cited text evidence
  • drafted sentences to further elaborate on text evidence, specifically to show how text evidence answers the prompt
  • explored three letter consonant blends in spelling
  • identified past, present and future tense in verbs
  • Started my favorite book of all time, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis

MATH-
  • explored finding area of a rectangle using square tiles
  • explored using multiplication as a strategy to find area of a rectangle
  • developed a conceptual understanding behind multiplying the number of rows by the number of columns in a rectangle to find the area
  • deepened our conceptual understanding of finding area by multiplying the lengths of adjacent sides to find the area
  • broke (decomposed) figures into multiple rectangles. Found the areas of individual rectangles within the shape and added them together to find the area of the total shape.
  • made multiple rectangles with the same area but differing side lengths

SOCIAL STUDIES
  • located and identified southern states in several different regions within the US.
  • discussed distinguishing features of different regions including climate, geography, and landmarks
  • started our winter holidays unit with student presentation of Diwali. Avyan delivered a fascinating power point presentation and shared gifted lanterns to his classmates.
