- Winter Holiday Unit -this week we focused on St Nicholas Day (Sinterklaas Dag) celebrated in many European countries on December 5 and 6. Students read an informative article, analyzed a narrative writing prompt, and then wrote a story that included relevant details from the text. We made authentic wooden shoes (hey, paper comes from trees and trees are made of wood!) and left them on our desks to be filled with either candy or coal.

MATH
- used properties of rectangles to find missing side lengths
- decomposed non rectangular figures into rectangles, used multiplication to find the area of the composite rectangles then used addition to find the area of the whole figure
- reviewed unit 2
- took unit 2 assessment
- We start unit 3 on Monday!
SOCIAL STUDIES
- Located and identified states in the West coast and Midwest regions of the US.
- Identified famous landmarks in regions of the US.
- Learned about St Nicholas Day celebrated in much of Europe and Boxing Day celebrated in most of the British Commonwealth.
- Welcomed Berry, a North Pole elf scout.
MISC
We participated in a door decorating contest. Our was an Elfie Station, not to be confused with a Selfie Station. This door allowed students to see themselves as elves in all their elfin adorableness.
