CHESS- Students learned about the final and most important piece, the King.  They learned the legalities of "Check," and the three ways a King can remove himself from being in check.  For the first time, the kids in Room 204 got to play a full Chess game using all the pieces.  They were masters of Chess protocol, remembering the rule against "kibutzing," and remembering to shake hands before and after the game.  Impressive!

MATH-We continued our work with tables and data before moving onto tricky story problems that either have too much information or hidden information or not enough information. We also are learning to solve multi-step problems.

SCIENCE- We began our unit on the human body starting with the bone system.  Students estimated how many bones are in the human body before counting the bones using pictures and posters of a skeleton..

READING- We discussed using the elements of story structure as a strategy to get our brains thinking more deeply about a text.  In small groups, we mapped out these building blocks of the stories we read.

WRITING- We learned about onomatopoeia or sound-effect words and used them to create humorous poems.

JANUARY BOOK PROJECT- By now, students should have selected and begun reading a fantasy book for their book projects.  If they haven't already done so, they need to write the title and author of their selected book along with their own name and numbers into the comment section of the post found at this link.

OTHER- No school Monday- Martin Luther King Jr Day.
