Week in Review
READING- Students identified cause and effect while reading stories about heroes such as Roberto Clemente.
WRITING - Students continued work on their personal narratives paying close attention to sentence fluency. They reviewed plural nouns in grammar and various ways to make the long /i/ in spelling.
MATH- Students finished up a short geometry unit focusing on quadrilaterals, lines, and line segments. They started a new unit delving deeper into story problems with a concentration on number families (math mountains.) Here's a math mountain for the numbers 2, 7, and 9.
Using this diagram, or math mountain, students can make eight equations.
2+7 = 9 9 = 2+7
7+2 = 9 9= 7+2
9-7 =2 2= 9-7
9-2 =7 7= 9-2
SOCIAL STUDIES - Students finished up their fall science unit last week with their unit test and began their fall social studies unit. Students discussed how they are part of the larger, general community of the planet earth and then continually narrowed that community down (hemisphere, continent, country, state, city) until they reached the comparatively tiny community of Bellevue. They learned how different communities have different physical features, natural resources, and climates.
ODDS AND ENDS Our Halloween party is on Monday. Students can bring costumes to school and can use their final recess of the day to change into their costumes. Please remember that weapons and masks are not allowed. I look forward to seeing you there!
