WRITING-Students continued their work on personal narratives. This week their topic was, "A Life Changing Moment." Their writing focused on sequencing of events, vivid word choice, and using enticing beginnings and strong endings. Some children were so engrossed in their writing that they were unable to complete a final copy in class. These students took their pre-writing graphic organizers, and their drafts home where it is hoped they will complete a final copy. Students may type their final copies on a computer if they wish.
MATH-Students reviewed for and took their Unit One math test. Their test scores ranged from 85% to 100% and demonstrated that this class had a strong number sense and felt comfortable regrouping with addition and subtraction. Check their Eagle Folders for some more story problems to complete over the weekend.
SCIENCE- Students finished up their work with measuring volume and capacity before turning their attention to measuring temperature. They spent Thursday and Friday writing study notes to help them review for Monday's Unit test. *IMPORTANT* Please search your child's blue eagle folder for a copy of their study notes. Encourage your child to review the notes over the weekend. You can help them study by asking questions such as, "What unit and what tool could you use to measure the juice in your glass?" ANSWER "ml and a graduated cylinder."
CHESS- Students learned about the knight's history and it's movement on the board. Students practiced moving their knights on a chess board while recording their moves on paper in the correct notation. Example: Nf3.
EXTRAS- Our class won two walk-a-thon awards this week; most money collected AND most laps walked. The trophy has been returned to our room where we all agreed it belonged :-) AND we will be celebrating with a pizza party in the near future. Way to go, kids!!!
