With Young Authors Day coming up in April, students have started the writing process that will culminate in their own "published" books to share at the big event. We will be devoting a lot of our writing time to drafting, revising, editing, illustrating and finally publishing our stories. Because of this, we will be taking a bit of a break from our Parent Letter Journals. Look for those to resume after Young Authors Day. In the meantime, I will keep updating our class blog with news of what we're learning in class so please be sure to check here often.
On a different note, in math third graders are tackling fractions and multiples in the context of comparison story problems. The latter half of this current math unit tends to be fairly challenging for most third graders. You can help your child succeed by devoting a little extra time and attention to the math homework. In other words, check in with your child often and help as much as you think necessary. Don't worry about helping too much. Unless you're doing the homework all by yourself while your child plays outside, you can't help too much with these next few lessons. You can click here for a "cheat sheet" to assist in your efforts as homework helpers. The sheet is a chart listing the steps we followed in class to help us use multiplication and division in comparison situations. The same sheet is attached to math homework for today.
