The Week in Review


MATH- Students finished a mini-unit in geometry where they were introduced to new polygons including hexagons, octagons, and pentagons while revisiting quadrilaterals.  Students learned about congruency and symmetry. In the newest math unit, students have practiced rounding numbers to the nearest ten and hundred.  Students are using rounding as means to estimate answers in order to quickly check their work.

SOCIAL STUDIES- Students discovered the various reasons immigrants have come to the United States.

READING- Students examined how story events are linked through cause and effect. They looked for examples of cause and effect in various texts.

WRITING- Students have begun a two-week persuasive writing project that examines at how the invention of television caused the demise of the Kamishibia Man's career in story-telling.

CHESS-Students learned that the Queen moves and captures vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, combining the moves of the rook and the bishop.  As such, she is the most powerful piece on the board.
