Lice Alert
That's right. A case of head lice has been reported in the third grade wing. Check your child's backpack for letters regarding head lice or you can click here for a pdf of the letter that went home. There is also a link to that same letter in the column at the right under helpful downloads. Here in class we will be working to prevent lice in a number of ways. First, girls with long hair should consider wearing their hair up in ponytails or even braids. I will keep spare ponytail holders as free gifts here in the classroom should a child require it. As an incentive, I will be giving Eagle Bucks to girls who remember to wear their hair up. Boys can earn an Eagle Buck as well by keeping their hair short. (Just trying to keep things fair :-) We always keep our coats and backpacks separate from each other, but will place a renewed emphasis on doing so. Also, I will keep lavendar oil on hand. Some research suggests that lavendar repels the little buggers. Students are free to help themselves to tiny amounts of oil. (No need for oil slicks in our room.) The number one thing you can do at home is to frequently check your child's head for nits. Together we can keep these unwanted guests out of our room.
