Homework Helper

Students are practicing different numerical strategies to solve multi-digit addition and subtraction problems. While these alternative strategies, expanded form and proof drawings, take more time than the standard algorithms, the use of these alternative strategies help students better understand and explain why the standard algorithms work. While the ultimate goal is to get students to use the most efficient strategy, often the standard algorithms, for the time being we are focusing on using expanded form and proof drawings as strategies to solve addition and subtraction. Click here to see a tutorial on how to use expanded form and proof drawings to solve subtraction.
