LITERACY- We learned to get our brains ready to read informational text by first doing a "Features of Text" walk through the chapter. Students examined graphic features like photographs, pictures, and diagrams. We also examined features like section headings, bold and italicized words, labels and captions. Then we were ready to begin identifying the main idea and supporting ideas of informational text.
MATH-We learned how to use the rules regarding the order of operations to help us solve equations with multiple operations. We identified patterns in multiples of 10 and practices shortcuts to help us quickly multiply single digits times multiples of ten. We put our multiplication and division skills to work on multi-step word problems. Multi-step word problems proved challenging.
SCIENCE- We measured how close a paperclip had to be to a magnet before the magnetic field could snap the paperclip to the magnet. We repeated the process two more times for a total of three times with one magnet. Then we repeated the trials with three magnets. We analyzed the collected data to answer the Focus Question, "How does adding more magnets affect the magnetic field?" We used this information to predict the snapping distance with two magnets. We learned that more magnets increase the strength of the magnetic field .
MISC-
Our friend, #5, shared the story of meeting Seahawks player while shopping. Can you guess the name of the player?
Students also earned another Champion Minute Movie Lunch this week.
Finally, with the weather getting colder and wetter, it's really important that children dress for the weather.
Students, what was your favorite part of the week. Comment here for one DOJO point.
