Bonus Math Problem and 100 Stars Party

Try to solve the following bonus math problem. To earn a skittle, you must show your work using the conventional, algebraic method described in class.

This year's class earned three times as many stars as last year's class. Together the two classes earned 100 stars. How many stars did each class earn? Leave your answers in the comment section.

And speaking of stars......our class has officially earned 100 stars and will be celebrating with a hundred stars party tomorrow. As promised, students planned the party submitting persuasive letters last week. After reading the proposals, we have settled on the following plan. Students may wear pajamas, but are not obligated to do so. Pajamas must be school appropriate. Think recess appropriate. Students may bring slippers to class, but must wear shoes to and from school and also outside at recess. Students may bring an extra, sugary-sweet treat in addition to their usual healthy treat for snack time. Students may bring a small toy OR a blanket for building forts, but not both. Our activities for the day include fort-building, a read-in, a chess tournament, a mini-marathon, and a movie lunch. Congratulations, boys and girls. You worked hard for this privilege and I am proud of you!
