Last Week in Review

READING- We took our middle of the year MAP online assessment. As a whole, the class showed great improvement.  We also worked on finding the author's purpose.

WRITING- We studied words with r-controlled vowels as well as words that used the prefixes -in, or -im.  We edited our writing checking specifically for pronoun-verb agreement.

MATH- We had TWO assessments last week!  The first was our unit 5 assessment that continued our work with addition and subtraction.  Our story problems became ever more complicated as we solved problems that required multiple steps, eliminating extra information, or adding needed information.  We also took our middle of the year MAP online test.  Again, the class as a whole showed great improvement.

SCIENCE- We continued our study of skeletons by digging for rodent remains in owl pellets.  (I can only imagine what you're thinking.) The students impressed me with their willingness to dive right in.

CHESS- We practiced moves for putting a king into checkmate.  Students worked in teams trying to checkmate a single white king with three or four black pieces of their choice.  Some were able to complete the task using just two pieces.

NEXT WEEK- Students need to remember to wear comfortable clothes and good running shoes for PE next week as they'll be doing a lot of running.
